Maternity Nurse

As an OCN Level 4 Maternity Nurse, my role is to support and guide you through those tough few months of your new babies life as both you and baby adjust to life in the fourth trimester. I can help to guide and teach you how to care for your baby and for yourself, whilst allowing you to get some much needed rest. My aim is always to make you feel empowered and confident in caring for your baby whilst sharing my extensive knowledge gained over my 10+ years experience as a Nanny, Maternity Nurse, and Infant Sleep Consultant. I can offer support with feeding (both breast and bottle), colic, allergies, tongue tie identification, umbilical cord care, tension in baby from birth, birth trauma, postpartum aftercare, and much more.

Prior to any Maternity Nurse booking I always aim for a quick phone call or, ideally, to meet in person. This not only ensures that I am the right fit for you but also allows me to tailor my practice in a way that best suits you and your family.

Overnight Support

This is my most popular Maternity service, as it allows new parents to get some much needed sleep! As an Overnight Maternity Nurse, my role is to take on all overnight care of your baby. If you are bottle feeding then I can take over these night feeds, or if you are breastfeeding I can quietly bring baby to you to feed, allowing you to get back to sleep as soon as possible with minimal disruption. I also ensure that all baby-related tasks are completed (such as cleaning and sterilising equipment, emptying nappy bins, tidying the nursery etc.) before I leave so that you can start your morning refreshed and organised.

My Overnight Maternity Nurse roles are usually 9pm-7am but I can often be flexible if you require a later finish or earlier start.

Daytime Maternity Nurse

My role as a Daytime Maternity Nurse is to offer expert care, support, and advice, whilst allowing you time to have a break. I offer either regular or ad-hoc Daytime Maternity Nursing slots throughout the week, which can be perfect if you just need a few hours to yourself, or I can offer blocks of days that can be booked for your return home post birth to help ease the transition. During my time with you I can support with all baby related tasks and offer any additional support that may be needed (such as batch cooking, walking the dog, putting as wash on etc.) to help restore some calm.

FAQ

What is a Maternity Nurse?

A maternity nurse is a trained professional that is employed to help support a new mother/father and their newborn(s). A maternity nurse is there to help guide you through the first few days/weeks/months of having a new baby and also give you confidence in your role as a mother/parent.

What qualifications do you have?

I am OCN level 4 qualified as a maternity nurse. I have had approx. 10 years of experience working with newborns and have additional training in specialist areas such as breastfeeding, bottle feeding, colic, reflux, and infant sleep.

When should I book a Maternity Nurse?

Most families book me for either the days or nights (or both) after being discharged from hospital. Some families like to have the first few weeks at home as a family, esp if another parent has leave from work, so prefer me to offer support a little later on. I am entirely flexible and happy to chat about what might work best for you and your family.

Do maternity nurses work sole charge?

Maternity nurses can work sole charge yes, but my main aim is always to support attachment and bonding between you and your new baby, so I try and encourage a healthy balance of time with and without your baby.

What hours does a Maternity Nurse usually work?

Most maternity nurses work a 24hr schedule for 5 or 6 days at a time over a booking of up to 6 months. Due to how I work however, it is rare that I am able to take longer 24hr bookings as I rarely have the availability. Most of my families hire me to work either days or nights only and the 24hr bookings that I am able to accept tend to be 2 weeks maximum. If you are looking for a longer booking, please do get in touch as I may be able to find a colleague that has availability.

Do you have experience with multiples?

Yes! I have worked with a number of twins as not only a maternity nurse but also a nanny and an infant sleep consultant. I have yet to work with triplets but it is on my bucket list and I would love the opportunity!

This amazing lady has saved me! My son woke 11-2 every night or woke every hour at 11 months old. He had never slept more than 3 hours at a time. I returned to work full
time and surviving on 4 hours of sleep a night I was struggling. I cried every night and suffered from anxiety every night. I’d lay there staring at the monitor waiting for him to wake. I tried so many gentle sleep techniques and routines and I found one that was beginning to work. He just started to sleep most of the night but with me in the room. The fear set in, I need him

To sleep without me in the room but if I leave and he doesn’t sleep I just don’t think I can cope. So I contacted Liz. With one form and one phone call, Liz gave me the guidance, reassurance and confidence I needed and within a week I was able to put Leo down, walk out, close the door and he will go to sleep 😱 an absolute miracle. Now he sleeps 7-6.30 every night! Liz was always a text/call away with any blips or questions and a bit of reassurance. We did it!!!! And in a week!!! I can’t thank you enough Liz you have given me my evenings with my hubby back which I will forever be grateful for. and we have a much happier, refreshed toddler 🙂 Xxx

Family T (aged 9 months)

Just wanted to send a huge thanks for all your help with Indigo. Even after two other children I’ve struggled with her nocturnal sleep patterns and have often sacri ced my own sleep so the rest of the house just isn’t affected!

But now she’s much more comfortable and sleeps better for longer. I am so grateful x

Love from a not-so-tired-and-grumpy-anymore-mummy and of course love from Indigo too ☺
